Peltier elements are little plates made of semiconducting material. These plates have two sides made of a ceramic material. When an electric current flows through the element (semiconducting material), one sides become hot and the other side becomes cold. This is the so called "Peltier effect". The dimensions are various but the average dimensions of the Peltier elements are about 40 x 40 mm, and 3 to 4 mm thick. (1.57 inch X 1.57 inch, 0.12 inch to 0.15 inch thick).
On the market there are different kinds of types of Peltier elements available, each suitable for a sertain application. The Peltier elements can be used on different voltages and has also different power consumption.
